«The Storm»
Manchester Storm are back at the AO Arena this season. In the Elite Ice Hockey League table the current side has yet to add a trophy since it was formed in 2015.
The Storm name has belonged to two different clubs. The first was set up in 1995 by Ogden Entertainment, with Lee Esckilsen as managing director, and took the British Hockey League Division One title in its debut season before winning the Superleague championship in 1999. It folded in 2002. Cameron Critchlow was in that squad; he is now head coach, and sits second only to Dallas Ehrhardt in the club's all-time appearances, goals and points.
The fixture against Sheffield Steelers, known as the Pennines derby, still carries the memory of a night in 1997 when 17,245 people packed into the old Manchester Arena to watch the two sides meet.
