Mihai Silvășan runs the sideline for The Tricolours these days, the same man who also coaches U-BT Cluj-Napoca, and it is at U-BT's own ground, the BTarena in Cluj-Napoca, that the national side plays out its home nights in front of up to 10,000 people.

Romania first stepped onto a EuroBasket court in Geneva on 2 May 1935, losing 42–9 to Switzerland. 5th place at EuroBasket in 1957 and again in 1967 remains the high point, with a 7th-place finish in 1955 the closest the team came to repeating it in that stretch. A World Cup finals appearance has never followed, and the one Olympic trip, to Helsinki in 1952, ended in 23rd.

Blue, yellow and red run through the shirt as they do through the flag, worn by a federation that was already there in 1931, a year before Romania signed on as a co-founder of FIBA.
