Ulm enters this Basketball Bundesliga season as reigning champions for the first time in the club's history, still measured against Bayern Munich and Alba Berlin.

The championship history it claims is not entirely its own. When the basketball department of SSV Ulm 1846 went insolvent, the club formed in 2001 to take its place also took its records, including the DBB-Pokal won under the old name in 1996.

The wait for anything to match that cup ran until 2023, when Ulm beat Telekom Baskets Bonn 3-1 in the finals under coach Anton Gavel, with Yago dos Santos named Finals MVP.

Killian Hayes came through the club's Orange Academy before his move into the professional game; among the investors now backing that academy's parent club is Isaiah Hartenstein . On the court, the fixture that still carries the most weight locally is the Tübinger Derby, against a neighbour Ulm's supporters have never stopped measuring themselves against.
