About

Division A forms the elite tier of the Belarusian Men's Volleyball Championship, a structure established in 1992 by the Belarusian Volleyball Federation following the dissolution of the USSR. Distinct from the football league system, the volleyball championship retains the traditional 'Vysshaya Liga' name without commercial sponsorship in its title. This sets it apart from Russian volleyball, which uses 'Superliga'.

The season consists of a two-round robin regular season followed by a knockout stage. The top eight teams advance to the playoffs. Quarterfinals and semifinals are best-of-five series, while the final is a best-of-six series. Promotion and relegation rules between Division A and Division B are not explicitly detailed in public sources, though playoffs exist between the Higher League and the First League.

Shakhtyor Soligorsk is the most successful club with ten titles. They hold a dynasty of ten consecutive wins from the 2016/17 season through to the 2025/26 campaign. Other notable participants include Energia Gomel, Borisov-BGUFK, and Mapid Minsk. A unique feature is the historical participation of Belarusian clubs in the Russian Superliga and Higher League B as open participants, creating a cross-border competitive structure not seen in football.

The league is distinct from Belarusian football by retaining the traditional 'Vysshaya Liga' name. This terminology choice distinguishes it from the football league system, which uses 'Extraliga' or sponsored names like 'Betera'. The structure also includes a parallel women's competition with similar Division A and B divisions.
