European League Women (EU) 2026/27

The European League Women operates as a developmental stage for national teams positioned away from the elite tier of European volleyball. Organized by the European Volleyball Confederation, the structure separates participants into a top-level Golden League and a secondary Silver League. Movement between these divisions is determined by performance; the champion of the Silver League advances to the Golden League for the following campaign.

This format serves nations such as Albania, Iceland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Latvia, Azerbaijan, and Portugal, who often compete in the Silver League or the lower rounds of the Golden League. The primary objective for the top division winner is securing a place in the FIVB Volleyball Women's Challenger Cup. This result provides a pathway toward the Volleyball Nations League. The competition remains distinct from continental club tournaments like the CEV Champions League, focusing exclusively on national squad development rather than club hierarchy.

Serbia and Ukraine hold the record for the most victories, each claiming the title three times. Recent context indicates Sweden won the Golden League in 2024. The system underwent a significant restructuring around 2018, establishing the current two-tier model. While the CEV Challenge Cup involves clubs from these same nations in a knockout format, the European League Women maintains its specific role in national team progression. It does not offer qualification for club competitions, avoiding confusion with those separate entities. The tournament provides a clear route for emerging powers to reach higher levels of international play without the pressure of the main continental championship.
