About

Hubert Jerzy Wagner Memorial is an annual international men's senior volleyball tournament held in Poland. It was founded in 2003 to honour the legacy of legendary Polish coach Hubert Jerzy Wagner, who died in 2002. The event is initiated by Jerzy Mróz, Honorary President of the Hubert Wagner Foundation, and organized in cooperation with the Polish Volleyball Federation (PZPS).

Unlike domestic leagues, this competition is not part of a pyramid structure. It serves as a prestigious high-level preparation event for national teams. Players typically participate in July or August, roughly two weeks before major competitions like the FIVB Nations League or European Championships. The tournament features four national teams: the host Polish squad and three invited international sides. Teams compete in a single round-robin group stage. Each side plays every other team once. There are no semi-finals or finals. The winner is determined by final standings based on points.

Poland holds the record for the most titles in the tournament's history with eleven victories. The host nation won in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2024. Other winners include Russia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Italy, Germany, and Bulgaria. Argentina claimed their first title in the 2025 edition. The venue has been consistently hosted in Kraków at the Tauron Arena since 2014, following previous rotations in cities such as Olsztyn, Łódź, and Katowice.

The competition is distinct from club events like the CEV Champions League or domestic leagues such as PlusLiga. It focuses exclusively on national team development and friendly matches. One year was cancelled due to the pandemic. The tournament remains a key fixture for teams preparing for international duty.
