Slovenia went to Paris for a first Olympic appearance in 2024, but the medal that best sums up the national team's rise is silver from the European Championship, and it came three times running before Ljubljana ever saw a gold at that level — 2015, 2019 and 2021, each ending one match short, against France, Serbia and Italy in turn.
The setup goes back to 1992, when Slovenia split from Yugoslavia and the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia joined the FIVB and the CEV within the year. The side known as Orli spent its first two decades mostly out of view before Giani's arrival in 2015 changed the ceiling. What followed is remembered in Slovenia as the "Silver Trio" period, coaches Slobodan Kovač and Alberto Giuliani carrying the team through those three European finals between 2017 and 2021, then a bronze at the 2023 Europeans and a fourth-place finish at the 2022 World Championship, co-hosted on home soil with Poland.
Tine Urnaut, captain for most of that stretch and named the tournament's best outside spiker in 2015, came up through ACH Volley Ljubljana, as did setter Dejan Vinčić, who took the MVP award at that same European League final before retiring in 2025. Fabio Soli took over as head coach in 2025, following Gheorghe Crețu.
Home games are played at the Stožice Arena, which holds nearly 12,500 for volleyball.
