About

SuperLega Credem Banca is the top-tier professional men's volleyball league in Italy. It sits at the apex of the national pyramid, above Serie A2 and lower divisions. The competition was rebranded from Serie A1 to SuperLega in 2014 as part of a modernization effort. The league is organized by the Lega Pallavolo Serie A (Lega Pallavolo), an autonomous body established in 1987. The championship itself dates back to 1946, with the first title awarded in Genoa. The season runs from September to May. The regular season follows a round-robin format where each team plays every other team twice, home and away. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs, known as the "scudetto" playoffs. These consist of Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and a Final, all played as best-of-five series. The team with the better regular-season record hosts Games 1, 3, and the decisive Game 5. Promotion and relegation involve a one-for-one exchange with Serie A2: the last-placed team is directly relegated, while the winner of the Serie A2 promotion playoffs is promoted. Notable distinctive features include the historical use of the "Golden Set," a single deciding set to 15 points for playoff ties where teams split matches. The league allows no limit on foreign players, requiring only a minimum number of Italians on the court. This policy has attracted significant international talent. Modena Volley is the most successful club with 12 titles. Cucine Lube Civitanova has seven, while Sisley Treviso holds ten. Itas Trentino won the 2024–25 season by defeating Cucine Lube Civitanova 3–2 in the final. The primary sponsor is Credem Banca. The SuperLega is distinct from the Coppa Italia, a separate knockout tournament held in winter with a Final Four format, also organized by the Lega Pallavolo Serie A.
