About

Serie A1 Femminile is the premier professional volleyball competition in Italy, governed by the Lega Pallavolo Serie A Femminile. The league traces its origins to 1946, when the Federazione Italiana Pallavolo (FIPAV) launched the inaugural tournament in August of that year. Originally designated as Serie A, the competition adopted its current name in 1977 to separate it from the men’s hierarchy.

The season operates on a round-robin structure involving 14 teams. Each side plays every opponent twice, completing a regular campaign across 26 matchdays. A distinct points system rewards victories based on the margin of success: three points for straight-set wins, two for a three-set victory, and one point for a narrow loss in five sets. This scoring method influences the final standings significantly.

The conclusion of the regular season determines the path to the title. The top eight clubs advance to the Play-off Scudetto, while teams placed ninth through twelfth compete in the Play-off Challenge Cup. The championship playoffs utilize a best-of-three format for the quarter-finals, escalating to best-of-five for the semi-finals and the final. The two lowest-ranked teams are relegated to Serie A2.

Imoco Volley Conegliano holds the distinction of being the current champion, securing the title in the 2023-24 season after defeating Savino Del Bene Scandicci in the final. Historically, Teodora Pallavolo Ravenna established dominance with eleven consecutive titles between 1980 and 1991. Imoco Conegliano has accumulated nine titles as of the 2024-25 season, followed closely by Volley Bergamo with eight victories. The competition maintains its own administrative identity, separate from the men’s SuperLega.
