In 2021 there was no Bergamo volleyball club left for it to attach to. The Foppapedretti family had ended its run with the city's team, and around twenty members, coordinated by Andrea Veneziani, Paolo Bolis and Stefano Rovetta, took over the sporting title rather than start from nothing. That mechanism let the new club skip the lower divisions entirely and open its first season, 2021-22, straight in Serie A1.

The name is a small trick on anyone checking the founding date: Volley Bergamo 1991 was registered in 2021, and the 1991 refers to the year the city's volleyball tradition began, not to this club's own birth.

For its first two seasons the team played at the PalaNorda, a 2,250-seat hall that hosted its last match on 10 May 2023 before being handed over to the GAMeC art gallery and demolished. Since then Bergamo has split its home fixtures between the PalaFacchetti in nearby Treviglio and the ChorusLife Arena, opened in November 2024 and configured for around 5,017 spectators at volleyball games.
