San Giovanni in Marignano had never played in the top flight until 2025, when Consolini Volley, chasing a first Serie A1 place, beat Itas Trentino 3-0 in the final of the Coppa Italia Serie A2 Femminile. It was the second time the club had lifted that cup — the first came in 2018, under the name Battistelli San Giovanni in Marignano, against LPM Mondovì.

The name on the shirt has rarely stayed still: Battistelli SGM RN, Omag-Mt San Giovanni, and now Omag Consolini Volley 1907, a run of sponsor changes rather than reinventions. What has stayed constant is what Italian volleyball writers call the club: Le Zie, "the Aunts", a nickname that has outlasted every sponsor on the shirt.

Serena Ortolani, born in Ravenna in 1987 and capped for Italy between 2004 and 2018, is the player most associated with the club — a European Champions League MVP whose career gave San Giovanni a name recognised well outside the Romagna region. The team plays in white and blue at the PalaMarignano, a 500-seat hall that has followed the club's promotion with talk of a move to the larger PalaCervia.

Promotion also brought a partnership with Fenerbahçe, announced once Serie A1 status was confirmed. Closer to home, the fixture that matters is against Megabox Ondulati del Savio Vallefoglia, a meeting the Italian press files under a fixed label: the derby along the Adriatic coast, Romagna against Marche.
