Igor Gorgonzola began life in 1984 in nearby Trecate, set up by Sister Giovanna Saporiti under the name AGIL Volley. The club moved to Novara in 2001 and took its current name in 2012, when the dairy producer Igor became main sponsor.

The Serie A1 title arrived in 2016-17, the club's only Italian championship so far, though Coppa Italia has come round three times, most recently in 2018-19. The bigger mark was made in Europe: a first CEV Cup in 2002-03 was matched by a second in 2024-25, either side of two decades.

The team now plays at Pala Igor Gorgonzola, known locally as PalaTerdoppio, a 3,246-seat arena opened in 2007.

No fixture on the calendar carries more weight than the visit of Imoco Conegliano.
