Al-Jandal secured a 4-1 victory over Al-Bukayriyah in the First Division League's Regular Season round four, played on Tuesday evening at home. The result lifted the hosts off the bottom of the table and sent the visitors further adrift in their search for their first win.
Things came to a head early when I. Al Sunaytan received a red card in the eighth minute, leaving the away side with ten men for the first half. To be fair, the hosts didn't rush, but they struck in the eighteenth minute through O. Al Rashed, and doubled their advantage before the break when M. Al Shammari found the net in the twenty-eighth.
By then the match had settled into a rhythm the home side controlled, though Al-Bukayriyah managed to pull one back through J. Silva in the forty-ninth minute. The visitors looked to respond immediately, but S. Al Muwallad restored the two-goal cushion in the fifty-eighth, and M. Nakhli added a fourth in the sixty-second to put the result beyond doubt.
Substitutions came thick and fast after the interval, with six changes made in quick succession around the fifty-sixth minute alone. Al-Jandal brought on O. Al Rashed and M. Nakhli in the sixty-sixth, while the visitors shuffled their pack with three alterations at the same time. Later runs included M. Al Mahmoudi and M. Mansour for the hosts, and R. Sharahili for the visitors.
The statistics tell a story of two sides that shared possession evenly at 50 per cent, yet produced very different returns. Al-Jandal registered six shots on target from 114 attacks, while Al-Bukayriyah managed five from 116. Neither side blocked a single shot, and both drew zero offsides — a reflection of tight defensive organisation rather than defensive aggression.
Before kick-off the hosts sat seventeenth with just one point from three games, while Al-Bukayriyah occupied fifteenth on two points. The result gives Al-Jandal their first victory of the campaign and moves them four points clear of the relegation zone, while the visitors remain winless and now three points behind their nearest rivals in the bottom half.
We had backed the visitors to win at 43 per cent confidence, but the match went another way entirely. The early dismissal changed the complexion of the game, and once Al-Jandal went ahead they ran the show — a reminder that football rarely follows the numbers on paper.
