Pendikspor came from behind to beat Antalyaspor 3:2 in the third round of Turkey's first division on Friday evening. The visitors took all three points after a match where the hosts dominated possession but could not hold on to their lead.
Rogerio Thuram got Antalyaspor ahead twice in the first half, scoring in the sixteenth and fortieth minutes. Pendikspor made three changes at the break, bringing on Dikmen, Nzaba and a replacement for Simsek. The visitors turned things around in the second half. Sagat levelled in the sixty-second minute before van de Streek restored the advantage eight minutes later. Manga then sealed the win for Pendikspor in the seventy-third minute.
And here's the thing about the numbers. Antalyaspor had 59 per cent possession and 11 corners but only three shots on target. Pendikspor were more efficient with five shots on target and one corner. The hosts made 98 attacks compared to 70 for the visitors, but the visitors converted their chances more reliably.
Four yellow cards for Antalyaspor against one for Pendikspor told part of the story. The hosts had more fouls and free kicks, while the visitors were disciplined enough to avoid giving away unnecessary set pieces. Pendikspor's goalkeeper made only one save while his counterpart had to make two.
The result keeps both sides in the bottom half. Antalyaspor sit twelfth with six points from five games, while Pendikspor are thirteenth on five points. The hosts lost their last outing 2:0 at Maradin BB, while the visitors drew 2:2 with Batman Petrospor in their previous match.
