Bursaspor spent 2024/25 in the TFF 2. The club won that division outright and returned to the second tier for the coming season.

It began in 1963 as a merger of five amateur sides from the city — Acar İdman Yurdu, Akınspor, İstiklal, Pınarspor and Çelikspor — brought together as Bursaspor Kulübü Derneği, and played its first match that September against İzmir Demirspor. Promotion to the top flight followed within four years.

The season that defines the club came much later. In 2009/10, Bursaspor won the Süper Lig by a single point from Fenerbahçe, the first won by a side from outside Istanbul since 1983.
