About the player
The goal came in an Ankara derby against MKE Ankaragücü. It was one of only two he scored across his seasons at Gençlerbirliği, and it landed in a 2024–25 campaign that ended with the TFF 1. Lig title and promotion to the Süper Lig. Babacan played 31 league matches that season and added an assist. He also broke his nose in a match against Kocaelispor.
He came through Denizlispor, joining the club's youth set-up in 2011 after four years at Denizli Pamukkale Gençlikspor, and made his senior debut there in 2014. Forty appearances and five goals followed over three years, and the club took the TFF 1. Lig title in 2014–15.
The move to Akhisarspor in July 2017 came on a free transfer, with Denizlispor paid a development fee of between 300,000 and 350,000 TL. He made 32 appearances there and was part of the squad that won the Turkish Cup in 2017–18. By January 2018 he was back at Denizlispor on loan, and that second spell ran to 47 appearances and two goals.
At MKE Ankaragücü, signed in January 2021 for an undisclosed small fee, he managed 12 appearances and a goal. The club won the TFF 1. Lig in 2021–22 and went up.
Turkey capped him twice at U18 level in 2015 and nine times at U21 between 2016 and 2018. He has not played for the senior side. His brother, Atalay Babacan, is also a professional footballer.
Babacan joined Bursaspor on a free transfer in May 2025, after Gençlerbirliği went up. He has played 10 matches for the club without scoring.
