Deportivo Pereira and Millonarios played out a 0:0 draw in the Clausura, round 9 of the Primera A, on Saturday evening at the Estadio Deportivo Calí. The result leaves the hosts still rooted to the bottom of the table while Millonarios hold their ground in tenth place. Things came to a head in the closing stages, but neither side could find the breakthrough they needed.
The match opened with a tense atmosphere that never quite eased. Yuber Quiñones picked up a yellow card for Deportivo Pereira in the 39th minute, a sign of the friction that would characterise the contest. Millonarios controlled the tempo early on, but their possession meant little without penetration into the final third.
Deportivo Pereira began to carve out opportunities after the interval. Jordy Monroy headed home in the 67th minute, and Leonardo Castro added a second for the visitors just two minutes later, but the official result remained unchanged. The home side pressed on, and Daniel Felipe Ruiz Rivera came on for Millonarios in the 71st minute as the hosts looked for a lifeline.
Substitutions mounted as both managers tried to shift the balance. Felipe Mosquera and Sebastian Acosta replaced each other for Deportivo Pereira in the 79th minute, while Santiago Andres Aguilar Murillo received a yellow card in the 89th minute. The away end never stopped, but the hosts' defence held firm when it mattered most.
Millonarios dominated possession at 52 per cent and registered 121 attacks compared to 68 for the hosts. They shot more accurately, with seven attempts on target to Deportivo Pereira's two, yet expected goals told a different story. The hosts created 1.7 expected goals to Millonarios' 0.96, suggesting the visitors let their chances slip.
The draw does little to alter either side's fortunes. Deportivo Pereira remain 20th with 10 points from 19 games, still searching for a win. Millonarios sit 10th on 26 points, but the result means they have not extended their recent run of positive results.
