First Vienna Women moved to 4th place with a 2:0 victory over Kleinmünchen / BV Linz in the women’s league.
The visitors controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, though the decisive moments arrived right on the half-time break. To be fair, the hosts had their chances early on, but they could not find the killer pass.
The opening goal came in the 45th minute when L. Havel found the net just before the interval. First Vienna doubled their advantage almost immediately after the restart, with M. Keckeis slotting home in the 48th. By then, the game was effectively over, and the hosts began to look for answers rather than attacking with purpose.
The visitors remain unbeaten through 5 matches, sitting on 7 points with 4 draws and a 1 win. Linz are crawling in 6th place with only 4 points from their opening 5 games. And here's the thing, their recent form has been inconsistent; they lost 2 of their last 3 before this defeat. The hosts threw bodies forward in the second half, making several changes to try and spark life into the attack. The pressure mounted as the clock ticked down towards the 60th minute mark.
H. Milanovic came on in the 58th minute, followed quickly by L. Schubert and A. Hofschweiger. They pressed high, but First Vienna’s defence held firm without breaking down. More substitutions followed as the game wore on, with V. Sprung and D. Kittel joining the fray around the 75th minute. M. Keckeis was eventually replaced in the 78th, having secured the 3 points for his side.
The result keeps the visitors firmly in contention for a top-4 finish while leaving Linz searching for their 2nd win of the season. The goal difference remains tight across the league, but consistency will separate the sides. First Vienna showed the discipline to see out the game despite the late pressure.
