Draw keeps both sides searching for first win
Kleinmünchen / BV Linz and Rapid shared the points in a Frauenliga encounter that ended 1:1 on Friday. The hosts sit sixth with four points from five games while Rapid sit ninth with three from four, and neither side has yet tasted victory in this campaign. To be fair, the result might have gone either way — both teams had their moments but couldn't quite turn them into a win.
A. Holl gave the hosts the lead in the twenty-eighth minute, a goal that felt like it might settle the game early. The visitors had been building something, keeping possession and probing, but the break came and Holl took it. By then the momentum had shifted, and Rapid found themselves chasing the game rather than controlling it.
The equaliser came from an own goal in the sixty-eighth minute, K. van Niehoff finding her net under pressure. The substitutions around the sixty-minute mark had changed something — five players came on for Rapid at once, and they looked different. Things came to a head when the ball dropped to van Niehoff and she couldn't clear it, and suddenly the visitors were back in it.
There were plenty of bookings scattered through the second half. E. Avdic went off after picking up two bookings in five minutes, and V. Rauter, A. Seidl and L. Krinzinger all collected yellow cards in what became a increasingly physical contest. The final card came in stoppage time, L. Krinzinger in the ninety-second minute, when tempers had risen and the game was getting stretched.
Eight substitutions were made between the two sides, with Rapid making five at once in the sixty-second minute. A. Masinovic, I. Schneiderbauer, S. Haupt, L. Schubert and E. Avdic all came on, while the hosts brought on L. Rammel, I. Taucher, E. S. Schimm and D. Kittel. The game was becoming disjointed, both sides running out of legs as the intensity rose.
The draw leaves both sides still searching for their first win of the season. Rapid's unbeaten run extends to four games now, though three draws and one loss is hardly a foundation to build on. Kleinmünchen stay in the bottom half with four points, and if they want to climb they'll need to convert more of these draws into victories.
