Dila secured a 3-1 victory away from home against Samgurali in the Erovnuli Liga's 25th round on Wednesday. The result leaves the visitors five points clear of their hosts in the table, with three games remaining in the regular season. Samgurali's hopes of closing the gap have taken another blow.
Dila struck twice in quick succession to settle the opening exchanges. Mamin Sanyang found the net at the 21-minute mark before Shota Shekiladze doubled the advantage two minutes later. Samgurali had dominated possession but could not find a response before the break.
And here's the thing about matches where one side controls the ball yet trails on the scoreline. Mohamed Kanté extended Dila's lead to 3-0 at the 49-minute mark, shortly after Niko Tsetskhladze came on for the hosts. Samgurali had to chase the game from that point forward.
Cebolinha Claudio added a fourth goal in the 85th minute to put the final touch on the result. By then Samgurali had made five substitutions in search of a reply, bringing on Ryan, Lasha Menteshashvili, Irakli Siradze, and Lasha Shergelashvili. None of those changes generated the breakthrough they needed.
The statistics tell a familiar story. Samgurali registered 159 attacks against 94 for Dila and held 62 per cent possession. Yet Dila's four shots on target produced three goals while the hosts managed only one from four attempts on goal. Efficiency, not volume, decided the match.
Samgurali sit seventh with 32 points from 24 games, while Dila sit fifth with 33 points from 23 matches. The visitors have one more game to play and could extend their advantage further if they maintain this form. Samgurali now face the remainder of the season with a three-point deficit and less momentum than before.
