Ilya Azyavin opened the scoring in the twentieth minute, and here's the thing — you remember that goal because it came from nothing. By then he had already put Shinnik ahead, and forty-one minutes in he doubled the lead from the penalty spot. Two goals inside the first half, and Arsenal Tula were still looking for a response.
The visitors finally broke through in the fifty-fourth minute when Igor Gorbunov found the net, but the momentum shifted quickly. Ten minutes later Timur Melekestsev levelled for Arsenal Tula, and then Azyavin was substituted in the fifty-eighth minute — not a tactical move, just the manager looking for fresh legs after a double shift.
To be fair, the second half belonged to Arsenal Tula in terms of pressure, but Shinnik held on grimly through a series of substitutions. Gongapshev came on in the seventy-third minute, Gorbunov was replaced in the seventy-fifth, and Magomedov arrived in the eighty-third. The game settled into a rhythm neither side could break.
Arsenal Tula edged possession at 51 per cent but managed only seven shots to Shinnik's nine, with both sides registering four on target. The hosts earned eight corners to the visitors' three, and the yellow card for Artem Golubev in the twenty-eighth minute was the only disciplinary action of note.
The draw extends Shinnik's run of two consecutive matches without a win, following their 0:3 defeat by Nizhny Novgorod. Arsenal Tula's form has been inconsistent — they beat Torpedo Moscow 1:0 last time out but have lost four of their ten games. Both sides will be looking for improvement before the next round.
