Sport Huancayo played out a 1-1 draw with Cultural Santarosa in the Clausura fourth round on Thursday evening. The result leaves both sides where they stand in the table - Huancayo in thirteenth place with 29 points, Santarosa sixth with 41.
Ronald Huaccha opened the scoring in the 41st minute for the home side, giving them the lead at half-time. Huancayo kept their advantage through the interval after Campos was substituted on the restart, bringing Magallanes into the match. By then the visitors had already seen Gonzalez and Lujan booked in quick succession.
Francisco Torres equalised for Santarosa in the 65th minute, and the game settled into a rhythm where neither side could break through. Huancayo added two more substitutions - Ospina and Magallanes - while Santarosa brought Lujan off for fresh legs. The yellow cards kept coming, with Gaona and Vasquez both cautioned in the 85th minute before Torres and Pretel added their names to the list late on.
The statistics tell a story of dominance without reward. Huancayo held 66 per cent of possession and created two big chances, but their 18 shots yielded only seven on target and a single goal. Santarosa managed just seven shots from 34 per cent possession but hit on target more efficiently, their two efforts finding the net. The home side had 12 corners to two, and crossed 36 balls compared to 11 - yet the result reflected a match decided in moments rather than sustained pressure.
For Huancayo, this was a point earned but not fully claimed. They had controlled territory and created more, but the visitors took their opportunity when it came. The draw means they remain mid-table, five points behind the top half and still searching for consistency after a run that included victories over Camamarca and Atletico Grau.
Santarosa meanwhile held firm in sixth place, showing the resilience that has kept them clear of trouble. They didn't need to dominate to get something from the game - and that is perhaps the lesson here. Not every match is won by the side that has more of the ball.
