About the player
Alexa Spanstra arrived at Utah Royals in March 2025 on loan from Portland Thorns, and by July 2026 the move had become permanent. Born in Brighton, Michigan, she now wears number 30 for the Royals and plays as a forward.
At the University of Virginia she was used as both a defender and a forward, work that earned her ACC Scholar-Athlete recognition in 2021, before she moved on to the University of Illinois and then Bowling Green State University. Professionally, she has been shifted around further still, having also featured as a centre back at times. Her path to Utah took in Portland Thorns in the NWSL, DC Power in the USL Super League, and a spell with Keflavík in Iceland.
Her clearest run of form came with the United States at youth level, where she won 13 caps and scored twice for the U-20s, including an appearance at the 2020 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Further back, in high school, she was part of Michigan Hawks sides that won back-to-back ACL National Championships.
