Erik Benjamin Nygren

Benjamin Nygren grew up in Gothenburg and came through Utbynäs SK before joining IFK Göteborg's academy, breaking into the first team in 2018 and scoring six goals in fifteen appearances. That form earned him a move to Belgian side K.R.C. Genk, where he lifted the Belgian Super Cup, though his development continued elsewhere: a two-year loan at SC Heerenveen in the Netherlands gave him regular football and 45 appearances.

It was at FC Nordsjælland that Nygren turned into a genuine goal threat. He became a key player in Denmark, racking up 87 appearances and 25 goals and earning a place in the Danish Superliga Team of the Year for the 2024–25 season. That run persuaded Celtic to move for him in the summer of 2025, and he wasted little time settling in Scotland: in his first season at the club he made 43 appearances and scored 19 goals, won both the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup, and was named Celtic Player of the Year as well as making the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.

Nygren's rise has carried through to the international stage. He made his senior debut for Sweden in a friendly against Luxembourg in March 2025 and scored his first goal for the national team days later against Northern Ireland. He has since been capped 15 times, scoring three goals, and was picked for the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, starting in the group-stage win over Tunisia and the defeat to the Netherlands, having also set up a goal in the play-off victory over Ukraine.
