About the player
Leonardo Rivas came through the youth ranks at Cerro Porteño.
A loan to Nacional in the 2024 season gave the left-back regular football, with 29 league appearances and a goal before he returned to Cerro Porteño at the start of 2025, where he added six more league outings. In July 2025 he left Paraguay for Portugal, signing permanently with AVS Futebol SAD on a deal running to 2027 with an option for a further year. He has since made 26 league appearances for the club.
Internationally, Rivas built his reputation with Paraguay's U23 side, where he won 12 caps and was part of the squad that lifted the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament in 2024. He went on to play in all four of Paraguay's matches at the Paris Olympics that year. His form at youth level earned him a first call-up to the senior national team in September 2024, for World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil.
