About the player
Babatunde Jimoh Akinsola started out at Valiant FC in Lagos before leaving Nigeria altogether in 2020, joining the academy of Vasalunds IF in Sweden. He made his senior debut for the Superettan club in August 2021.
He was signed by Real Valladolid in January 2023. He began with the B side in Segunda Federación but was promoted to make his La Liga debut against Sevilla in May 2023. Ten first-team appearances followed before a loan took him to Portugal in January 2024.
That loan spell at AVS proved decisive. Fifteen appearances and a goal in Liga Portugal 2 were enough to convince the club to make the move permanent, and in August 2024 he signed a three-year contract running to 2027, arriving on a free transfer. The switch paid off with regular football: by the 2024–25 season he had become a first-choice starter in the Primeira Liga.
Internationally, Akinsola's involvement so far has stayed at youth level. A senior call-up has not yet come.
