About the player
Wass came through at Brøndby, making his first-team debut in 2007, and left home only after a loan to Fredrikstad in Norway. Benfica took him on a five-year contract in 2011, but he never made a first-team appearance in Lisbon and was loaned out almost immediately to Évian Thonon Gaillard.
Celta Vigo brought him into Spanish football in 2015, and he spent three seasons there before Valencia paid €6 million for him in 2018. He also reached the semi-finals of the Supercopa de España with the club the following year, losing out to Real Madrid.
A switch to Atlético Madrid in January 2022 — Wass made just one competitive appearance before a knee injury ended his season, and by August he was back at Brøndby on a permanent deal. For Denmark, he made his debut in February 2011 against England and went on to earn 44 caps, though a place in the preliminary 35-man squad for the 2018 World Cup did not translate into a spot in the final 23.
