About the player
He came up through IF Brommapojkarna and moved on to Akropolis IF, then left Sweden altogether in January 2019 for Brentford. Hammar made his first-team debut for the Bees as a substitute in an FA Cup tie against Stoke City in January 2020, and picked up the Middlesex Senior Cup with Brentford's B team that same season. In January 2021 he went back to Akropolis IF on a free transfer.
The breakthrough came via Hammarby. Signed by feeder club Hammarby TFF in January 2022, Hammar scored seven goals in 26 appearances there before being promoted to Hammarby IF's senior squad that August. He went on to make 48 league appearances for the club, scoring once, and was part of the squad that finished as Allsvenskan runners-up in 2024.
Mechelen paid a fee reported by Sportbladet at around €1 million to sign him in January 2025, on a contract running to 2028. By September of that year he had been made club captain.
Hammar's international career so far has stayed at youth level. He collected 25 caps and four goals for Sweden's U17s, including two goals at the 2018 UEFA U-17 Championship, and added five caps for the U19s.
