Massimo Decoene's career has been built almost entirely on loan spells. Since turning professional with KV Kortrijk in April 2023, the defensive midfielder has spent barely any time settled at one club, moving from Oostende to Lokeren-Temse to the Slovenian side NŠ Mura before his contract in Kortrijk ran out. At Oostende, in his first senior loan in 2023–24, he made around two dozen league appearances. The following season brought a shorter stint at Lokeren-Temse, then a brief return to Kortrijk before he was sent out again, this time to Mura in February 2025.

That itinerant spell ended in September 2025, when Decoene joined KV Mechelen on a free transfer after leaving Kortrijk, signing a contract that runs to June 2027. It gives him, for the first time since his debut, a club he was signed by directly rather than loaned to.

Born in Menen, Decoene passed through several youth academies before settling at Kortrijk, including spells at Zulte Waregem, KSV Roeselare and Sint-Truiden, before returning to Kortrijk's youth ranks in 2021 and eventually earning his first professional deal there.

He has not been capped by Belgium at any level, senior or youth, and his career so far carries no individual awards or team honours. At Mechelen he wears the number 39 shirt.
