Gonzalo Nápoli Soria

Gonzalo Nápoli Soria came through the youth ranks at Defensor Sporting in Montevideo, moving into the first team in 2019. In 2021 he went out on loan to River Plate, also in the Uruguayan capital, before returning to Defensor Sporting to continue his development there.

January 2023 brought a move to Liverpool Montevideo. A year later, in January 2024, Club León signed him from Uruguay for a reported €1.8 million, taking him into Mexican football. Though the club sent him back to Liverpool Montevideo on loan for the 2025 season before he returned to León.

His representative honours have so far stopped short of the senior Uruguay side. Nápoli has instead worn the sky blue at youth level, appearing for the under-15, under-17, under-18 and under-20 sides as he worked through the national team pathway.

A left-footed midfielder standing 178cm, he arrives with experience across South American and Mexican football still to translate into a first senior cap for Uruguay.
