About the player
Jan Alexandre Bamert came through Grasshopper Club Zürich's youth ranks and made his senior debut for the club in 2016, going on to make 43 league appearances before FC Sion signed him on a free transfer in July 2017. At Sion he settled into a regular starting role, making 102 league appearances and scoring four goals across five seasons in Valais. In August 2022 he moved to FC Thun on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract.
Internationally, Bamert worked his way up through the Swiss youth setup, from under-15 to under-21 level, earning 58 caps in total. He was a regular in the Switzerland under-21 side, with 15 caps and a goal between 2017 and 2021, and was part of the squad at the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
He was a regular defender as the club won the Swiss Challenge League in 2024–25 to secure promotion to the Swiss Super League, and the following season Thun went one better: their first-ever Swiss Super League title, finishing top of the table with 75 points, ahead of FC St. Gallen and FC Lugano. Since joining Thun, Bamert has made 101 league appearances and scored six goals.
