Javier Fernandez

Javier Fernández spent five years in Atlético Madrid's academy before joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer at the start of 2023. He made his UEFA Youth League debut for Bayern's U19 side against Feyenoord and scored on the occasion. He also featured for Bayern Munich II in the Regionalliga Bayern across two seasons, contributing a goal in each.

Fernández, who is comfortable with either foot, began his career at Pavellón Ourense in his home city before a brief spell at Celta Vigo took him into Atlético's youth ranks. At international level, he has represented Spain through the age groups, from 11 caps and two goals at U16 level to appearances for the U17 and U18 sides. He was part of the Spanish U17 squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2023 European Under-17 Championship, a tournament won by Germany.

At the end of January 2026, Bayern sent him out on loan to 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2. Bundesliga, with a purchase option attached to the deal. He made a dozen league appearances split across two seasons and setting up two goals for team-mates, though he is yet to open his own scoring account for the club. His start against Arminia Bielefeld in April 2026 coincided with the beginning of a run without defeat for Nürnberg in matches he started.
