About the player
Joel Bichsel arrives at FC Lugano. After coming through the BSC Young Boys academy, the left-footed centre-back spent a season on loan at SC Freiburg II, making 34 appearances in the 3. Liga and finding the net once.
FC Saarbrücken. Across all competitions there he made 36 appearances and scored twice, and was part of the side through the promotion playoffs for the 2. Bundesliga at the end of the 2024–25 season.
At 194 cm, he offers Lugano obvious physical presence at the back, and his path has already taken him through Switzerland's under-21 setup, where he collected four caps in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers. A senior call-up has not yet followed.
