About the player
FC Saarbrücken, where he won the Saarland Cup and took the Regionalliga Südwest title in 2017–18.
The breakthrough, when it came, was late. In July 2021 he joined 1. FC Union Berlin on a free transfer.
In January 2024, Behrens moved to VfL Wolfsburg for a fee reported between €2.5 million and €3.5 million with bonuses — his first paid transfer after a career built almost entirely on free moves. In July 2025, with his contract expired, he left for FC Lugano in the Swiss Super League, again on a free transfer.
