Leonardo Fabrizio Bertone

On 3 March 2019, in FC Cincinnati's first-ever match, against Seattle Sounders, he scored the first goal the Major League Soccer franchise ever recorded. That strike came less than three months after he had left BSC Young Boys for the American club, closing a spell in Bern that began at SC Wohlensee and carried him through the Young Boys academy from 2004 before his professional debut in May 2012.

At Young Boys, Bertone was part of a squad that ended a 32-year wait for the Swiss Super League title in the 2017/18 season, having finished runner-up in three of the previous campaigns. He operated mainly as a defensive or central midfielder, right-footed.

After a single season in Cincinnati, Bertone returned to Switzerland with FC Thun in January 2020, then left within the year for Belgian side Waasland-Beveren, where he spent two seasons and scored once in around thirty appearances before the club missed out on promotion to the First Division A in 2022. He went back to Thun that summer, and the move paid off in the 2024/25 season, when the club won the Swiss Challenge League and returned to the top flight.

Bertone's international experience is confined to Switzerland's youth sides: 13 caps and a goal for the under-21s between 2013 and 2016, alongside earlier appearances for the under-20s, under-19s and under-18s. He has not featured for the senior national team.
