About the player
Mauro Lenaerts came through the Lierse Kempenzonen youth ranks before earning a first-team debut for Lierse SK in March 2025. Less than a year later, in January 2026, the forward moved to KV Mechelen on a free transfer, putting pen to paper on a contract running until 30 June 2029. He spent the 2025/26 season largely with the club's reserve side, Jong KV Mechelen, gaining experience before a step up was arranged.
That step came in July 2026, when Mechelen sent the 184cm forward out on loan to Helmond Sport for the 2026/27 campaign, a move built on an existing partnership between the two clubs and designed to give him regular football in the Eerste Divisie. No fee changed hands for either the switch to Mechelen or the subsequent loan.
Lenaerts plays as a forward. His progression has been steady rather than dramatic.
