About the player
Sho Fukuda's route to Denmark began far from Japan's top flight. He started his senior career with FC Imabari in the Japan Football League, where he went 37 appearances without a goal, before a free transfer to YSCC Yokohama in the J3 League in January 2023 changed the trajectory of his career. That season he scored 11 goals in 21 appearances and was named the J3 League's Monthly MVP for May 2023, a run of form that persuaded Shonan Bellmare to sign him that August.
At Shonan, in the J1 League, Fukuda established himself as a regular contributor, scoring 14 league goals in 62 appearances between 2023 and 2025. That output was enough to draw interest from abroad, and in the summer of 2025 he joined Brøndby IF on a free transfer, signing a contract running until 2029.
Fukuda's recognition has not been confined to Japan and Denmark alone: he received an Honourable Mention in the EA Sports FC 26 Team of the Year list.
