About the player
Verheijen came through the youth ranks at RKPVV and Helmond Sport before joining the VVV-Venlo academy in 2015, moving up to the first team ahead of the 2020–21 season and making his senior debut on 13 August 2021. Over five seasons at VVV-Venlo he made 72 Eerste Divisie appearances, scoring eight goals, plus two KNVB Cup appearances and a further goal in the cup. In August 2023 he received the Jan Klaassens Award, given to the most promising talent to come through the club's academy, an honour that arrived despite a long-term injury that had cut into his playing time that season.
Verheijen's contract at VVV-Venlo was terminated by mutual consent in June 2025, and he moved to MVV Maastricht on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal with an option for a third season. He has settled quickly at his new club: in the 2025–26 season he has made 16 Eerste Divisie appearances for MVV and scored twice.
