About the player
Yassin Khalifi arrived at Charleroi in the summer of 2025: a winners' medal from the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where he was an undisputed starter for Morocco, played the full 120 minutes in the semi-final win over France, and helped beat Argentina 2-0 in the final. He was named to the Team of the Tournament, and Charleroi signed him permanently on a two-year contract with an option to extend.
The midfielder was shaped at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Morocco, where he was scouted by Atlético Madrid. His senior football began with a loan at Union Touarga, where he made two appearances in the Botola Pro 2. In September 2023 he joined Lille OSC, spending his time with the reserve side, Lille B, in the Championnat National 2, where he made 45 appearances and scored one goal.
Khalifi scored for Morocco's U18s at the 2022 Mediterranean Games against Spain and Italy as the side won bronze, then became a regular for the U20s, collecting 25 caps and three goals between 2022 and 2024 before the World Cup triumph in Chile. He has since been capped at U23 level. In 2022, he was included in The Guardian's "Next Generation" list of the best 60 players born in 2005.
