Aarhus Fremad

Riisvangen Stadion holds 5,000, but only about 300 of them are seats.

The club came out of the Fremad movement, a spread of working sports societies that put down clubs in Danish towns. The Aarhus branch dates from 12 June 1897; the footballers only broke away on 13 August 1947, at the urging of Vilhelm Østenfjeld.

The stretch that people in Aarhus still talk about ran from 1984 to 1997: nine promotions in thirteen years, one division after another. That was settled on 11 June 1997 with a 3-1 win over Svendborg fB, and it carried a club with 300 seats into the Superliga.

The stay lasted a season. Fremad finished 10th of 12 in 1997-98, which sounds thinner than it was — Søren Hermansen scored 19 that year and finished second in the league's scoring charts.

What followed was harder. In 1999 the club merged with FC Aarhus; the project collapsed inside six months under debts of 1.8 million kroner. A generation later a television crew followed the 2019-20 season for a documentary series, and in 2024-25 Fremad won the 2nd Division with 65 points and a goal difference of +30 from 32 matches.

The rivalry that means most is with Herning Fremad, a club grown from the same movement and named for it.
