AFAD

The project in Djékanou started as Association Pythagore, before the academy took the name of its patron, Amadou Diallo, and moved its senior side into competitive football in Abidjan.

The clearest measure of what it built came in 2011, when a squad drawn largely from its own academy finished as runners-up in Ligue 1. Serge N'Guessan and Vincent Angban both passed through that pipeline, and Didier Zokora returned to the club as assistant manager.

Silverware has come from the domestic cups rather than the league: AFAD won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2018, then reached both major cup finals again the following season, losing the Coupe de la Ligue to Lys de Sassandra on penalties and the Coupe Nationale to FC San Pedro. Continental football arrived early and briefly, with appearances in the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup in the early 2010s that were not repeated.

Stade Robert Champroux, the club's ground in Abidjan, has been rebuilt down to a capacity of 2,800, a reminder that AFAD's business has always been producing players rather than housing crowds — Bobley Anderson's move to Málaga is the model the academy points to. What the club has not managed since 2011 is a Ligue 1 title of its own.
