Chindia Târgoviște

The oddest thing about Chindia Târgoviște is that it beat itself to the title of local club. For five years, from 2010 to 2015, the newly formed side shared Târgoviște with FCM Târgoviște, the older team it had effectively replaced, and the two met in a derby of successors before FCM folded and left the city to the newcomer. Chindia carries the old club's name, its red and blue colours and its ground, but it was built from scratch on 11 August 2010, when the municipality of Târgoviște joined forces with Gheorghe Popescu and Ion Crăciunescu to put a team back on the pitch under the banner of CSM Târgoviște. It owes nothing legally to the club that wore the same shirt before it.

It climbed fast for a side with no inherited history to lean on. Two Liga III titles, in 2010–11 and 2014–15, took it through the lower divisions, and promotion followed as Liga II champions in 2018–19. A single season in the top flight stands above the rest: in 2020–21, Chindia finished seventh in Liga I, its best finish yet, and reached the Conference League qualifying rounds before Viitorul Constanța ended the run 3–2 in the play-off. The same campaign brought a Romanian Cup quarter-final, matched again the following season.

The club plays at the Stadionul Eugen Popescu, closed for reconstruction from July 2019 and reopened in May 2023 with covered stands, floodlights and turnstiles that gave it the look of a proper Liga I ground. Supporters, organised as Cavalerii Cetății, know the side as the Roș-albaștrii.

Among those who wore the shirt, Marian Aoyani stands out for having come through the club's own academy to reach the national team as its goalkeeper, a path few at Chindia have managed. Florin Gardoș, once captain of Romania, later returned in a different role, as the club's general manager.
