Cosmos

The club took its name and its green and yellow colours in 1979 as a deliberate borrow from the New York Cosmos, the team Pelé had made famous just a few years earlier.

Dante Maiani was among those who founded it, and he went on to become San Marino's first professional footballer, playing and coaching the side in its early years. That grounding produced the most consistent record in the republic's football: a single Sammarinese league title, in 2000–01, sits alongside four Coppa Titano wins and three Trofeo Federale successes, mostly clustered in the mid-to-late 1990s. Lorenzo Amoruso, an Italian international, closed out his playing career at Cosmos in 2008.

The league title in 2001 opened the door to the UEFA Cup that autumn, where Cosmos were eliminated by Rapid Vienna. It took more than two decades for the club to reach continental competition again, qualifying for the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League before going out to Sutjeska Nikšić. Cosmos have no ground of their own and play at the San Marino Stadium, which holds around 7,000 and is shared across the country's league.

For a club from a republic where full-time football barely exists, staying competitive from one season to the next is the real work.
