The old Olimpia went under in January 2018, unable to cover its debts. Local authorities set up a football section under the municipal sports club CSM Satu Mare, and sent the new side out in Liga IV — the county's bottom tier — the same year the old badge disappeared.

Promotion came fast at first: back-to-back titles in Liga IV – Județul Satu Mare in 2019 and 2020 pushed the team up through Liga III. The name stayed CSM Satu Mare until 2023, when the club dropped the initials-only identity, renamed itself CSM Olimpia Satu Mare, and switched to the yellow and blue historically worn by the club it had effectively replaced.

The football itself kept climbing. A second-place finish in Liga III in 2024–25 earned a play-off spot, and in 2025 the side reached Liga II for the first time. It did not last a full season there — the team went back down at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, and stayed in the second tier only because another club withdrew rather than through anything decided on the pitch.

Home games are played at the Stadionul Daniel Prodan, a ground listed for 18,000 but with just 1,500 seats, the rest standing. The name honours the former Romania international; the old Olimpia, for reference, once went as far as a Romanian Cup final, in 1978, under Gheorghe Staicu, though that history belongs to a club that no longer exists rather than to the one now training under its old colours.

For now the club sits back in Liga II, holding on to a place it kept by circumstance rather than form, with the job of proving in 2026/27 that it belongs there on its own merit.
