De Treffers

Tijs Waterink finished his playing career at De Treffers after spells at Karlsruher SC, FC Den Bosch and TOP Oss, and his son Tim now plays up front for the club. Portuguese midfielder Rúben Rodrigues passed through on loan from FC Den Bosch in the 2018/19 season before moving on to Notts County and Vitória.

The club was founded on 1 August 1919 in Groesbeek, in the province of Gelderland, and has kept its name ever since. An earlier generation had already taken the Eerste Klasse district title in the mid-1930s, without going on to the national crown. In the KNVB Cup the club has never gone further than the last sixteen, reached again in 2025/26, and it now competes in the Tweede Divisie.

Supporters and local press know the team as the Rood-Zwarten, a name that matches what turns out on the pitch: a checked red-and-black shirt over black shorts and red socks. That colour scheme fills Sportpark Zuid, where 4,700 people fit in on matchday, 400 of them under a roof and another 800 sheltered by standing cover.
