DPMM FC

In Singapore, Hougang United and Lion City Sailors, still known as Home United for much of that spell, gave DPMM FC the closest thing it had to home derbies in a country that was never its own. Back in Brunei, the older grudge belonged to Indera Sports Club. DPMM FC has never had the luxury of staying put: the team grew out of a college side from 1994, took its current name in 2000, and has spent its existence chasing a proper league to play in, since Brunei itself has none.

That search took it into Malaysia's second tier in 2005, up to the Malaysia Super League within a year, and then across to Singapore's S.League in 2009, a move interrupted almost immediately when FIFA suspended the club over government interference in the Brunei Football Association. The 2009 league results were wiped from the record, though the League Cup won that year stood. DPMM FC returned to Singapore in 2012 and built its best spell there, winning the league in 2015 under Steve Kean and again in 2019, with a runners-up finish in the 2014 Singapore Cup final in between.

The pandemic pulled the club out of Singapore in 2020; it came back in 2023, only to announce in May 2025 that it was leaving again, this time to rejoin the Malaysia Super League as a guest team for 2025–26. Through all of it, home has stayed the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan, and the club itself remains the property of Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah. Known to their own supporters as Gegar Gegar, DPMM FC now start again in a Malaysian league that once served as their first step out of Brunei.
