«EIF»
The men who kicked a ball around Ekenäs in 1905 were part of a sports association, not a football club as the term is understood now.
Then, in 1933, EIF spent a season in the Mestaruussarja.
What ended that was the Ykkönen title in 2023, which carried the club into the Veikkausliiga from 2024. The home ground, the Ekenäs Sparbank Arena — the townspeople still call it the centre pitch, and the Finnish-language signage calls it Tammisaaren keskuskenttä — holds 2,500.
Before promotion there was the cup run of 2018, and within it the win over FC Haka, 2–1, which put EIF into the semi-finals of the Suomen Cup. It remains the furthest the club has gone in the competition. There is no trophy in the cabinet from any of it — no league title, no cup — and eighth place, a semi-final, a second-tier championship.
The nickname supporters use is simply the acronym.
