PK-35

PK-35 spent seven seasons as the team to beat in Finnish women's football, taking the Naisten Liiga title in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018. That run belonged to PK-35 Vantaa, the women's side that carried the name through its strongest years before folding in 2016 after the club went into bankruptcy. A women's team playing under the PK-35 name in Helsinki picked up the thread afterwards, winning promotion to the Kansallinen Liiga through the play-offs in 2020.

The men's side traces back further, to 19 September 1935, when it was founded in Viipuri as Viipurin Pallokerho. Helsinki became home only later, and since 1966 the club has been based in Pihlajamäki. The team reached the Veikkausliiga in 1998 and finished third, then went on to lose the Finnish Cup final the same year. The club's owner sold the operation to the man behind ice hockey side Jokerit the following year, and the top-flight side was rebranded FC Jokerit — leaving the original PK-35 to rebuild from the lower leagues, a spell that included years spent in Vantaa and a Kakkonen title in 2020.

Matches against HJK and HPS still draw the biggest crowds, played out as the Helsinki derby, while the old Vantaa side had its own rivalry with TiPS. Of the players who came through the Vantaa years, Ilona Walta is the name still mentioned first — a midfielder raised in HJK's youth system who went on to represent the women's team.
