Fiľakovo

In the 3. Liga, FTC Fiľakovo plays in a league that it only reached in 2016, when the side won the 4. liga SsFZ – sk. Jih with 66 points from 21 wins in 26 matches. The club started life as Füleki Haladás ATC in 1908, and the name changed repeatedly after that — through Füleki AC, TJ Spartak Fiľakovo, TJ Kovomier Fiľakovo — before settling as FTC Fiľakovo in 1993, and no Slovak league title or cup has ever come with any of them.

What the club has instead is the derby. Twice a season, more or less, Fiľakovo meets MŠK Rimavská Sobota from the neighbouring town, and the fixture carries enough history of its own that locals just call it the Gemer derby. It is not a friendly one: in September 2025 police had to step in to break up trouble around the match, the latest in a run of games between the two sides that have tipped into violence rather than staying on the pitch.

The ground itself, Štadión FTC Fiľakovo, draws a modest crowd by design more than circumstance — the club has never pushed much beyond regional football, reaching only the second round of the Slovak Cup, in 2015/16 and again in 2021/22.

The player most worth knowing is Emil Le Giang, born in 1991, who came through the youth ranks at Fiľakovo before leaving for MŠK Žilina and going on to play top-flight football there and at FC Nitra — a route out of the Gemer region that few from this club have managed. Further back, in 1937 and 1938, goalkeeper Teodor Reimann wore the yellow and blue before winning caps for Czechoslovakia, a reminder that the club's best export has always been a single player rather than a team.
