There is no derby here. A reserve side takes on other clubs' reserve sides and Liga 3 regulars — Trofense, Leça, União de Santarém, Fafe.

Vitória SC B exists to move players from one dressing room to another. Miguel Silva went through the B side in goal before establishing himself upstairs; so did the full-back Sacko and the midfielder Joseph. The team exists for that traffic, not for itself.

It has spent most of its life outside the spotlight, shuffled between the Segunda Liga and Liga 3 as Portuguese football repeatedly redrew the boundary for reserve teams — a rule change in the top flight's regulations is what created the side in the first place, in 2012, after an earlier B team from 1999 had already come and gone. None of that produced a trophy. The closest the team came was the 2024/25 Campeonato de Portugal final, lost to Lusitano de Évora on penalties after the sides had been level at 1-1. That, not a league placing, is the one line on the record that reads like an achievement rather than a stepping stone.

What the club actually is sits closer to its beginning than to that final: a feeder side born out of a change to the rulebook, still doing the job it was set up to do.
